What we are reading - Research from Nutri Advanced… CONSUMPTION OF MORE FATTY FISH AND LESS VEGETABLE OILS CAN REDUCE MIGRAINE HEADACHES - Ramsden, CE, et al. BMJ, July 1; DOI:10.1136/bmj.n1448 In a randomised controlled trial 182 adults with frequent migraines were assigned to one of three healthy diet plans for a period of 16 weeks. Participants all received meal kits that included fish, vegetables, hummus, salad and breakfast items. One group received meals that had high levels of fatty fish or oils from fatty fish and lower linoleic acid. A second group received meals that had high levels of fatty fish and higher linoleic acid. This third group received meals with high linoleic acid and lower levels of fatty fish to mimic the average US intake. The diet lower in vegetable oil and higher in fatty fish produced between 30% and 40% reduction in total headache hours per day, severe headache hours per day and overall headache days per month. In addition, blood samples from this group also had lower levels of pain-related lipids.

Top 10 reasons to give your Children Omega 3 The more we learn about the growth and development of us as humans, we are coming to realise the enormous impact of the mother’s health and nutritional status, and the effect that this will have on her baby. Did you know that the food a pregnant mother eats before and during pregnancy, and when breastfeeding, can affect her child’s health well into adulthood? “Nutritional programming” happens in the womb, and if the mother is well nourished, this will only but benefit the rapidly growing and developing baby. This is especially true of her intake of Omega 3 fish oils. Their value cannot be underestimated!
