Sports and Remedial Massage at Wellness Centre Newcastle

Many amateur and professional athletes are sidelined with injuries that could be avoided. Others avoid exercise needlessly because their injury does not respond to ordinary treatment. Still others are playing, but at less than peak efficiency, simply because their structural system is not balance.  Progressive coaches, athletes, and doctors are realizing that pain killing drugs are not the answer. They merely cover up the symptoms, deceiving the athlete into actions which could make the injury more serious.

Wellness Centre Newcastle's approach to health, closely relates to the needs of the sports participant. Most sports involve body contact, fast starts and stops, and positioning that places an unusual amount of strain on the back and structural system.

Sports Massage is available with Grace Harrop, a level 4 qualified Sports Massage practitioner.

For every new patient she will conduct a physical assessment and formulate a treatment plan accordingly. During the treatment the application of neuromuscular and tissue mobilisation techniques will be used to help support the bodies natural recovery. At the end of the session Grace will also prescribe corrective exercises to aid in the treatment of your  injury or soft tissue dysfunction.

Sports massage is a deep form of soft tissue mobilisation. Sports massage therapy is geared toward athletes of every kind and is suitable for professionals and amateurs alike. Each treatment is specific to the athlete's sport of choice and focuses on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive or aggressive movements.

Sports massage therapy is used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation as well as reduce recovery time. A specially designed sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body and mind for optimal performance.

If you are not an athlete, but you undertake a lot of strenuous physical activity, this treatment helps you to break down the tension work or a busy lifestyle causes in your muscles  by re-oxygenating them and increasing blood flow to the tissue.

Massage Therapists, Chiropractors and Osteopaths consider a person as an integrated being, giving special attention to the spine, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.

Sports Massage, Osteopathy and Chiropractic care are natural health care methods that stress the importance of keeping all the systems of the body functioning efficiently so the sportsperson enjoys peak performance, a minimum injury risk, and fast recuperative powers.

Many world class and Olympic athletes, as well as professional stars and teams, have retained sports Therapists, Chiropractors and Osteopaths to provide care.

Grace will chat through your medical history including any current or past injuries, and will perform a postural and gait analysis along with a physical examination, then design your treatment plan accordingly. During the massage expect trigger point techniques, soft tissue and myofascial release and strong pressure that manipulates your muscles. These techniques are perfect for stretching and lengthening muscles and help with any post-workout recovery including Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS).

The session will usually finish with some passive stretching and some advice on exercise and stretches to do at home. All initial consultations for Sports Massage are at least 1 hour long.
