Chiropractic and Osteopathic Care

Osteopathy and Chiropractic are regulated, primary care professions. They specialise in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders, and the effects of these conditions on patients’ general health.

Using many of the diagnostic procedures applied in conventional medical assessment, chiropractors and osteopaths seek to restore the optimal functioning of the body.

Chiropractic and osteopathy are philosophically based on the principles that the body has the ability to heal itself and that the body’s structure helps govern it’s function. This means that osteopaths and chiropractors have a holistic approach and believe that your whole body will work well if your body is in good structural balance. Imagine, for example, a car that has one of its front wheels not quite pointing straight. It may run well for a while, but after a few thousand miles, the tyre will wear out. You can apply this example to the human body, which is why it is so important to keep the body in good balance.

Treatment therefore focuses on conditions which are due to problems with the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves of the body, particularly those of the spine. This helps to strengthen the musculoskeletal system helping with symptomatic relief of existing conditions and helps prevent future episodes of pain and illness.

Chiropractors and osteopaths patient-centered approach to health and well-being means they consider symptoms in the context of the patient’s full medical history, as well as their lifestyle and personal circumstances. This holistic approach ensures that all treatment is tailored to the individual patient.

Osteopaths and chiropractors assess and treat people of any age from the elderly to the newborn and from pregnant women to sports people.

Chiropractic and osteopathic adjustments involves safe, gentle, specific spinal adjustments to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly. As well as spinal adjustments, they may use a variety of other techniques including ice, heat, exercise and acupuncture as well as give advice about posture and lifestyle.

Training and professional requirements

To qualify, our Chiropractors and Osteopaths had to study for five years to gain one or two undergraduate degrees and/or a masters degree. This is similar to a medical degree, with more emphasis on anatomy and musculoskeletal medicine and includes more than 1,000 hours of training in osteopathic and chiropractic techniques. By law, osteopaths must register with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and chiropractors with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).

We are committed to undertaking continuous professional development to update our knowledge and skills on a regular basis.

We tailor our techniques to ensure they are safe and suitable for each and every spine so that all generations have the opportunity to enhance their health with gentle Chiropractic and Osteopathic care.

Cannot recommend here enough. I've had back problems for years, can always rely on these guys to help me both with sports massage and adjustments, and advice...... And of course the guys are fabulous..... Warm welcome always and a great sense of humour!!!

I struggled for years with back pain before coming here, with doctors telling me I'd have to 'just live with it' and there was nothing they could do. Since having regular visits with Andrew, my life is back to normal and I'm pain free 99% of the time. I've tried several different places but I won't go anywhere else now.

I've been going to The Wellness Centre for years now and would highly recommend it. I go to see Andrew the Chiropractor and he's fantastic! Having recently had a baby, I was suffering from a bad back and aching neck, one visit and I'm feeling great! Definitely worth a visit.
